Playdough is another great sensory activity. Not only do littles love playdough, but it also develops fine motor skills and strength in their little hands.
Here are some playdough mats I created to work on building shapes!
All you need to do is print out the templates and laminate! If you don't have a laminator you can always use clear contact paper or page protectors. Check out the links below!
My toddler LOVED this activity. As a teacher, I of course implemented a little gradual release of responsibility, using the I do, we do, you do teaching strategy.
I showed him how to roll out the playdough, then built the shape
WE rolled out the playdough together (using hands or rolling pin), then built the shape
HE did it on his own
If your toddler gets easily frustrated like mine, don't be afraid to repeat the I do and we do stages a few times. Remind them it's just for FUN!
We had some dry erase markers laying around and worked on tracing shapes with this template as well.
Because my one year old isn't ready for an activity like this, I gave him some button shapes and playdough to play with!
