Rock Collecting and "Painting"

With the warm weather finally arriving in ND, we have been itching to spend as much time as possible outside. Like most kids, my boys would spend every second of the day running around outside.

This morning, we decided to do a little morning walk and went rock collecting to make it purposeful. The boys grabbed a bucket to take with us, and collected rocks of different sizes and colors. Of course, they thought the big rocks were SO cool.

After our bucket got full, we took the rocks back to the house and continued our activity. We used our outdoor sensory bin table to put rocks on one side and water on the other. The boys each got a paintbrush to explore with. They "painted" the rocks and watched them change from the water. They were engaged for such a long time. It was so fun to watch!

Such a fun and mess free activity to do outside with your little ones!

After they lost interest in "painting" I grabbed some of their trucks to continue and expand their engagement with the rocks. A morning activity that lasted well over an hour. Mom win, and I think they thought it was a win too :)
