Pumpkin Explosion - Baking Soda and Vinegar

The classic baking soda and vinegar experiment is so fun to do with littles. To make this experiment Halloween-themed, we used one of the many pumpkins we accumulated this Fall.

While creating your baking soda and vinegar reaction, you can have your littles (depending on age) talk about what they see, hear, smell, and feel. Obviously leaving the sense of taste out of this equation :) It is so much fun to hear what our little scientists have to say about this simple "experiment."

For this activity you will need:
- Pumpkin
- Knife (for adult use only)
- Baking Sheet
- Baking soda
- Food coloring (optional)
- Vinegar

  1. Cut out the top of your pumpkin (for the adults)

  2. Clean out the "guts"

  3. Put pumpkin on a baking sheet, to contain mess

  4. Add a few scoops of baking soda

  5. Add a couple drops of food coloring

  6. Add vinegar

PUMPKIN EXPLOSION!
