Play dough and Linking Cubes (BONUS Math Game)

My two year old loves playing with play dough. However, my one year old thinks play dough is simply for eating, MOST of the time!!

Today we added some linking cubes to our play dough time, and he did amazing! This kept him busy and distracted from trying to eat it. For this activity there is no one way to play. Your little can create stamps in the play dough. They can build towers without having to worry about their tower moving on them or tipping over. They can use the cubes to cut out small squares. The options are endless!

With my two year old we stepped it up a notch by adding one of our foam dice and made a little game out of the linking cubes and play dough. There is a variety of ways you can play this game. Read directions to decide which option you'd like to do or try both :)

  1. Using a roller or your hands create multiple flat surfaces with your play dough, shape does not matter.

  2. Have a variety of linking cubes and one dice

  3. Your little will roll the dice

  4. Count the number of dots on the dice

  5. Create that many "stamps" in your play dough using the linking cube OR place that amount of linking cubes on to the play dough surface

  6. REPEAT as many times as you'd like!
