Numbers and Shapes with Cars

I have found the more I use cars to implement an activity the more engaged my boys are. SURPRISE! They are two toddler boys who are simply obsessed. If your little one isn't a die hard car fan, plan their activities around their interests (dinosaurs, dolls, cooking, princesses, etc.)

For this activity, we created a parking lot to practice number and shape recognition. It is a great activity to engage your younger and older toddlers. Just use a skill that they are working on to set up! My one, going on two, year old practiced shapes while my 3 year old practiced numbers 0-15.

Options to practice:

  • numbers

  • upper or lowercase alphabet

  • shapes

  • name

The Set-up:

  1. Create a "parking lot" with washi tape. You can use as little or as many spots as you would like.

  2. In each space, put a piece of tape in the center with the number, shape, or letter

  3. On each car, add a piece of tape and write out the corresponding number (shape, letter)

  4. Add the cars to a basket and get ready to play AND learn :)

Time to play! Depending on your child's age or skill level, you can let them go at this activity on their own or if needing guidance have them grab one car at a time and talk together about the letter, shape, or number THEN have them find the correct parking space.

  • Washi tape is the BEST for activities with littles. You can use it on the floor and walls, plus it's colorful and fun! https://amzn.to/42f5Otg
