"If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" Counting Activity

Updated: Oct 30, 2022

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is a fun, classic book that my boys have been loving lately.

I created a cookie count and clip activity for my two year old to work on his counting and BONUS his fine motor skills.

Printable for Count and Clip cards and "Cookies"

Getting Ready:

  • Print off the count and clip cookie sheets

  • Laminate if you want to be able to reuse

  • Cut!

  • Grab some clothespins (or paper clips)

To Play Count and Clip:

  1. Have your little count the cookies on the card

  2. Clip the clothespin on the corresponding number

  3. Repeat!

To Play Which cookie has more chocolate chips?:

  1. Have your little look at the cookies and figure out which cookie has more chips? Help them count if need be.

  2. Circle with a dry erase marker or clip with a clothespin the cookie with more chocolate chips

Because my one year old isn't ready for an activity like this I printed off some little "cookies" and added a sticky magnet on the back for him to play with on a baking sheet. I then gave him an old Tupperware container and cut a slit in the lid for him to put the "cookies" into.

After awhile, both boys ended up playing with the pan and "cookies." Huxley asked for a spatula, which turned out to be super fun for them with the magnet on the back of the cookies!
