Clothespin Number Match

Clothespins are a great tool to use when doing activities with your littles. They can be used in a variety of ways and are extremely beneficial when it comes to enhancing fine motor skills.

The first time I did a clothespin activity with my son was a complete fail. I was actually shocked how difficult the concept of using your thumb and index finger to squeeze the clothespin was. It took a lot of practice and a lot of patience on both ends. I never ended up getting to the activity because we spent our time together learning how to use a clothespin.

Now that he is older, and we have spent time using clothespins, we are able to use them for projects and activities. Today, we used clothespins to practice number recognition.

For this activity you need:

  • My number flashcards (or you can write out 1-15 on pieces of paper)

  • 15 clothespins

  • Sharpie

To prepare this activity, grab 15 clothespins and write the numbers 1-15 out. One number per clothespin. Make sure you have the numbers 1-15 written out on separate pieces of paper as well or print off my free flashcard template to use! For the most durability, laminate your flashcards!

1. Give your little the stack of number cards and clothespins
2. Look at the number on the flashcard. Say the number.
3. Look for the clothespin. Pin the clothespin onto the flashcard.
4. Repeat.
