10 Thanksgiving Sensory Play + Crafts

October got BUSY, honestly just went by so fast. I never got around to posting about our sensory + crafting for Halloween. If you follow me on Instagram, you were able to get a good snapshot of what we were up too.

The Thanksgiving download is available and ready for you and your little one's to start playing and learning. I love creating these activities to supplement our sensory play.

Here is some fun crafts and sensory play you can give a try this November, leading up to turkey day!

1. Pumpkin Spice Cloud Dough

Cloud dough may be the easiest sensory base to make. It's only 2 ingredients, flour and vegetable oil! You can add in some spices if you want to add an additional scent. I don't have an exact measurement because every time I measure I ended up adding more of one or the other..! Just add your flour and then add in some vegetable oil until the "dough" holds it shape when manipulating but isn't sticky! You can add in a little food coloring too!

To make this play even more festive, I gave my boys some little pie molds + some bowls and spoons to pretend they were doing some baking of their own! You could add in some pumpkin loose parts too! Enjoy this MESSY activity!

2. Shape Turkeys with Playdough

My boys love playdough, and this one turned out so cute. To make these shape turkeys, we used our shape downloads from the Thanksgiving bundle.

You will need:

  • Brown playdough

  • Feathers

  • Googly eyes

  • Pipe cleaners for feet

  • Felt, foam or beads to create beaks, snoods, wattles, etc.

Simply use the playdough to create a shape. Then add in all of your loose parts to create and decorate your turkey!

3. Handprint Turkey

Handprint crafts are my favorite. Littles love them and they are simply adorable! Paint, googly eyes, and some markers is all you'll need for this one. Paint your little's palm + thumb brown, then use green, red, yellow, and orange paint on the remaining fingers. Make a handprint on paper and use your markers to create a beak, snood, and feet! Add a googly eye! (I ran out of small eyes, so we just used a marker)

4. Dancing Corn

We did this dancing STEM experiment with white beans to create little ghosts, but using popcorn kernels is another fun way to create this one

You'll need:

  • A clear jar

  • Baking soda

  • Water

  • Vinegar

  • Popcorn kernels

Fill cup 2/3rd full with water and drop in some popcorn kernels. Mix in a tablespoon or two of baking soda. Slowly pour in vinegar and watch the kernels dance! MAGIC! :)

5. Build A Fizzy Turkey

This baking soda and vinegar science experiment was SO cute! Anything with the fuzzy reactions is a hit in our house. We found this idea on Instagram and had to give it a try. Here is how we did this simple set up.

  • Create a turkey using felt or foam sheets and googly eyes (we used foam)

  • Mix vinegar and food coloring of choice into little jars or bowls

  • Lay out baking soda in a pie pan

  • Add your turkey on top

  • Give your little a dropper or pipette and create "feathers" using the vinegar mixture

  • Watch the turkey's feathers fizz as you create!

Here is an activity we made in our Pumpkin bundle! It's a fun way to engage your littles in counting while doing sensory play.

For this activity, we used:

  • Our recipe cards

  • Playdough

  • Pie molds

  • Pumpkin loose parts

  • White pom poms or cotton balls for whipped cream

  • Cinnamon sticks (real or faux OR brown pipe cleaners)

Have your little read the recipe cards and create their pumpkin pie!

7. Pumpkin Playdough + Equal Parts

Another cute pumpkin pie playdough activity to practice cutting pie into equal parts! We created some cards in our Thanksgiving bundle for this one.

Simply add playdough over the pie sheet and then have your little cut your pie into equal parts using the cards as a guide! Definitely start with 2, 4, 8, and then make your way up using the other cards OR just let them pretend play with more kitchen utensils!

8. Whipped Cream Writing Practice

Typing up this post I realized how many pumpkin pie play activities we've been doing haha! This one was a BLAST! A super fun way to get your littles excited about writing practice. Another printable from our free Thanksgiving bundle.

Make sure to laminate or use a sheet protector for this one! If using the download, cut out the whipped cream cards. You will need shaving cream or real whip cream.

Have your little spray shaving cream over the pie. Even it out. Pick a letter. Write the letter. Repeat!

9. STEM Turkey Feather Shapes

This STEM activity is a fun way to get your little using a different resource to create a variety of shapes. If using the cards created in the bundle, your little will practice some reading and critical thinking skills too. Recognizing numbers, colors, and shapes to figure out what they will be be building.

10. Fall Q-tip or Finger Painting

Using a few of these fall downloads, we created some fun fine motor painting crafts. For the acorn, leaf, and pumpkin you can use a q-tip! This is a great way for your little to practice their pincer grasp. The tree download is perfect for doing some finger painting! My kiddos love getting a little messy with some hand painting!

Hope you are able to try out one or two of these activities, and I hope you enjoy :)
